Assunta Saulle
(Scafati, Salerno, 1987)
The Artist lives and works between Rome and Esfahan. He studied at the “Youth Association of Cinema” in Tehran and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. Maziar Mokhtari’s visual research unfolds through an inexhaustible process of discovery and surprise. The artist positions himself as a tireless traveler who continually returns to rediscover his native city. From this temporal and spatial observation, Mokhtari draws the use of the color yellow, ultimately transforming it into a distinctive stylistic mark that characterizes the walls of the city of Esfahan. Yellow becomes in Mokhtari’s work a symbolic and interpretive key that formally supports and intertwines the philosophical, historical and anthropological themes explored by the artist. Although divided into individual projects, Mokhtari’s artistic production remains deeply characterized by a cohesive visual and allegorical continuity. Light and color define the rhythm of his works, generating a sense of unity among them as they unfold within a single coherent atmosphere. The method of observing worlds, rituals and landscapes marks Mokhtari’s approach and materializes through the use of various media ranging from painting to photography, from video to installation. His practice is consistently connected to the exhibition spaces which the artist interprets and transforms in each of his projects through the creation of site-specific environments. Maziar Mokhtari has exhibited his works both in Italy and abroad, in a number of public and private venues including: Museo Macro (Rome), Maraya Art Center (Sharjah UAE), Stux Gallery (New York), Triennale di Milano, Galleria Più (Bologna), Galleria Dino Morra (Naples), Galleria Nuova Pesa (Rome), Azad Art Gallery (Tehran), Emrooz Gallery (Esfahan), O Gallery (Tehran), Roberto Bilotti Museum (Rende CS) and Museo del Sale Arte Contemporanea (Salgemma).
